7 AirPods Tips And Tricks Every New Owner Needs To Know
Have you got a pair of Airpods? You’re definitely not alone: these earphones are hugely popular, selling a massive 60 million units in 2019 alone.
Their combination of sleek design, unique features, and fashionable cachet is terrific but did you know that you can make them even better with some tips and tricks?
In this guide, we’re going to give you a set of Airpods tips and tricks that can help you get more out of your favorite earbuds. Are you ready to learn more? Then read on!
1. You Can Pair Them With Anything
If you own Airpods, there’s a very good chance that you own an Apple device. Syncing Airpods with an Apple product is very easy but you can pair them with anything that’s got Bluetooth!
That means that if you’ve got an Android phone or tablet, or want to pair them with a Windows PC, you can. To pair your Airpods with a non-Apple product, follow these instructions:
- Open up your Airpods’ case
- Press and hold the small button on the back of the case
- Wait until the LED starts flashing
- Pair as normal
The only problem with pairing Airpods with non-Apple tech is that some of their best features don’t work. Taking one out doesn’t pause your media for instance and you can’t check battery level as easily.
2. Make Your Airpods Do More
So you know that your Airpods are obviously amazing for listening to music but they can do a lot more for you. Enter tap functionality! This feature lets you assign different features when you tap your Airpods, such as opening Siri.
To get to this function, connect your Airpods to your iPad or iPhone and then follow these instructions:
- Open up settings
- Go to the Bluetooth option
- Hit the information button to the right of your Airpods’ listing
- Select left or right
Now you can decide what happens when you tap twice on each Airpod. You can open Siri, pause your music, skip tracks, jump back, and more.
This is one of the coolest hidden features of your Airpods. Make sure that you set it up!
3. Pair With Apple TV
So you want to watch stuff on Apple TV but it’s late at night. How can you watch it without waking up other people in the house? Well, your Airpods can pair with your Apple TV too.
To pair your Airpods with your Apple TV, follow these instructions:
- Turn on your Apple TV
- Hold down the play/pause button
- Scroll down to your Airpods
- Hit the main button
That’s all there is to it. Now you can enjoy your media through your Airpods!
4. Use Just One Airpod And Get Stereo Sound
You might think that you need to use both Airpods to experience true stereo sound but that’s not true. If you want to get the full Airpods experience with only one Airpod, there’s a setting for that.
All that you need to do to access this feature is take one Airpod out of the case and put it in your ear. That’s all there is to it, there’s no need to fiddle in the menus or change any settings. Put one Airpod in and start your media up.
5. Change The Name On Your Airpods
It’s nice that the Airpods register to your name but what if you buy a second-hand pair and want to change that? Is it possible to make them really yours, rather than still being registered to the previous owner?
Yes! To change the name on your Airpods, you’ll need to head to the Bluetooth settings again and hit the information button next to your Airpods.
Then hit the name field. Now you can type in the name that you want to be associated with your Airpods. It takes a few seconds to change and makes them more uniquely yours!
6. Fix Common Airpods Issues
While there are a lot of great things about Airpods, they do still have some problems. If you want to solve these issues and make your experience better, we’ve got you covered.
Most issues from Airpods not connecting to problems with calls can be fixed. The very best way to fix these issues is to reset your pair of Airpods.
To reset your Airpods, follow these instructions:
- Put both Airpods back into your case
- Find the button on the back of the case
- Hold it down for 20 seconds until the light flashes amber
Now your Airpods are reset and you can pair them with your devices again and see if it’s fixed your issues. If it hasn’t, we’d recommend seeking out more solutions online or taking them to an Apple Store.
7. Find Your Airpods
Let’s say that you’ve lost your Airpods or, even worse, you think that they’ve been stolen. You’re not out of luck: you should be able to get them back, thanks to iCloud.
You’re probably familiar with iCloud due to its “Find My iPhone” feature. Airpods can be found this way too. Open up Find My iPhone and tap on your Airpods.
Now you should be able to see your Airpods on a map. If they’re online, you can even make them play a sound, which makes finding them even easier.
