Pros: Mapping out a user journey which everyone from techies to PMs to content writers, could understand was very important to us as a business. Most tools swung one way or the other, made for developers or made for people who didn’t care about APIs. WebEngage has the best of both worlds, and the most awesome journey builder I’ve come across as a marketer.

Cons: The pricing model discourages experimentation and creates road-blocks in terms of onboarding. For a tool that doesn’t actually send emails/messages (they have integrations with all leading senders), the pricing is too steep based on a number of active users/events you can send.

Overall: We really struggled to find an affordable automation tool for Email & SMS, that had good API support and an intuitive journey builder. WebEngage hits all the right notes for that.

It packs the punch of big automation systems like Marketo, Eloqua or Responsys. But is much cheaper and tech stack is way more startup-friendly.

Post-WebEngage, we have much better control over targeting when it comes to communication. By sending the right content in the right context, we have seen improvements all across the funnel.

To make it better, its customer service is thorough, attentive and very friendly.

Pros: emfluence allowed us to solve email marketing problems with technical constraints that few were willing to help us tackle. Our ability to share and organize data is restricted, and emfluence came up with a custom solution for us to be able to send emails consistently. They provide excellent customer service, education and make it easy to build campaigns in a restricted environment.

Cons: I have no qualms with this platform. They’ve made my life so much easier with the solutions they provided that I can’t complain in the slightest.

HubSpot’s a very robust tool. It contains a lot of apps that all speak to each other, which is really great if, like me, you’re on a very small marketing team and have to prioritize time as much as possible when you’re responsible for so many different tasks.
The content optimization tools are excellent (in-post SEO help, campaign strategy tools, keyword difficulty/traffic info). The automation functionality is also stupendous and there are various opt-in/opt-out capabilities so that you can really tailor the UX of your lead generation to fit your persona’s buying habits, THE LAW, and your own company ethos regarding data collection.
What I will say to those considering HubSpot for their own organization is to use as many apps as possible and “go all-in” – otherwise inbound isn’t going to be as effective as you want it to be.


I’d love to see improved cross-domain functionality in the Enterprise edition. It’d be great to monitor keyword results on multiple subdomains as opposed to just the target domain.
I also look forward to the social monitoring functionality moving beyond Twitter.
While there are a lot of resources available (the academy, community, email support) the learning curve can be steep for those on the startup program who don’t get a designated account manager.
