Indian Mobile Services Market To Hit Rs. 1.2 trillion In 2013: Gartner
Research and analysis firm Gartner has predicted that India’s mobile services market will hit Rs. 1.2 lakh crore (Rs. 1.2 trillion) size by 2013, registering a growth of 8 percent from Rs 1.1 lakh crore recorded in 2012. According to the report, mobile connections will surge to 770 million in 2013, which is an 11 percent hike from 712 million connections last year.
Other important findings of the report are:
- India accounts for 12% of worldwide connections and yet revenue only accounts for 2%
- Indian telecom operators are under pressure to maintain their profit margins
- Government policies like free national roaming, MNP, telemarketing rules are adversely affecting their revenue growth
- Mobile messaging using data and VOIP will pose a serious challenge to mobile operators
- Many operators are entering into strategic partnerships with mobile messaging apps
- Internet and data are attractive fields for telcos to leverage and produce some very good products
- Mobile companies will have to tap the potential of utility based local mobile apps
